Pupils from Ysgol Y Wern Choir collect their prize

A whole year in the planning by 9 primary schools, Save The Children, Colorfoto and Howell’s School, Cardiff; this was the huge undertaking by dedicated teams to achieve a Christmas extravaganza success. Colorfoto’s sponsorship of the Christmas Past Fair at Howell’s School on 28th November was a most memorable event, particularly for the pupils and staff of the schools that took part in the main feature of the fair, the ‘Primary Schools’ Choir Competition’, which was won by Ysgol Y Wern, Cardiff. 800 visitors came along to support the event, held in aid of Save The Children. It was the first one of its kind and the school’s Victorian building proved an ideal setting. A huge thank you goes to Sally Davis, Principal of Howell’s School and her wonderful staff for hosting the fair, which we are certain will become an annual event. Our thanks also go to The High Sheriff of South Glamorgan, Mrs Anne Campbell for presenting the prizes and Mr Richard Powell, Director of Global Child Safeguarding in his role as MC. We will keep you posted on how much money was raised for Save The Children.

Celebration at Cyfarthfa Junior School

Estyn inspectors gave Cyfarthfa Junior School a Grade One rating in all seven areas of educational provision they assessed on a two and a half day inspection . Headteacher, Owen Morgan, said: “This is a very satisfying report as it highlights the care, commitment and sound teaching practice of the staff and the good behaviour and positive outlook of the pupils contributing to their high level of achievement. These things only come about in a happy and caring environment, the product of the excellent rapport between the staff and the pupils, solid parental backing and the support of the wider community. Bloodhound SSC Project

Bloodhound SSC Project

The Engineering Education Scheme – Wales operates in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering. The aim of the scheme is to encourage the best talent in our schools to take up engineering as a career, following a university degree in an engineering discipline. The mechanism for this is to organise industrial-based engineering projects for teams of talented sixth form students, which they will find both challenging and stimulating. The culmination of the project was the Awards & Presentation Day at The Celtic Manor Resort on Monday 22nd March where the schools displayed their projects. Each school was assessed and the ten category winners presented with their prizes.
The highlight of the event was the spectacle of the full size replica of the Bloodhound SSC. Wing Commander Andy Green, who will be piloting this supersonic car, was one of the guest speakers. He gave an exciting account of the Bloodhound project, and of how he hopes to break the previous land speed record by achieving 1000 miles an hour, when he gets behind the wheel in 2012!

Pencoed Students' Magazine Cover

Pencoed Students' Magazine Cover

Colorfoto recently welcomed Year 12 Media students from Ysgol Pencoed School in Bridgend. Photographers and creative artists were on hand to give camera and software tuition to the pupils to produce their own magazine covers. Jayne Slater, Head of Media at the school said, “Colorfoto’s facilities are fantastic; we simply don’t have access to this type of technology at school. The company’s photography and design experts helped create and implement the magazine concept from scratch. The pupils were amazed at what they were able to produce and Colorfoto printed the final magazine covers as posters, which we will be proudly displaying at our forthcoming inspection. The whole experience was unbelievable`’
