Bloodhound SSC Project

Bloodhound SSC Project

The Engineering Education Scheme – Wales operates in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering. The aim of the scheme is to encourage the best talent in our schools to take up engineering as a career, following a university degree in an engineering discipline. The mechanism for this is to organise industrial-based engineering projects for teams of talented sixth form students, which they will find both challenging and stimulating. The culmination of the project was the Awards & Presentation Day at The Celtic Manor Resort on Monday 22nd March where the schools displayed their projects. Each school was assessed and the ten category winners presented with their prizes.
The highlight of the event was the spectacle of the full size replica of the Bloodhound SSC. Wing Commander Andy Green, who will be piloting this supersonic car, was one of the guest speakers. He gave an exciting account of the Bloodhound project, and of how he hopes to break the previous land speed record by achieving 1000 miles an hour, when he gets behind the wheel in 2012!
